Statement from the Shadow Minister for Women, Ros Bates

7th March 2024

Steven Miles has chosen not to invite LNP women MPs to the official Women’s Week event in Parliament tonight.

In a week designed to celebrate all women, an invitation would cost nothing but meant everything for what that could have represented.

Instead, Steven Miles made Women’s Week all about politics.

Unbelievably, male Labor MPs, including one who has had to apologise for calling a female MP a “dopey stupid woman”, have been invited to the Premier’s celebration of women.

Labor have spat hollow platitudes from one side of the Parliament this week, while in the next breath spitefully attacked LNP women who come to work here to stand up for women in Queensland.

How dare he exclude women from the event based on their political colours.

It’s disrespectful and sends a terrible to message Queensland women.

Steven Miles says lighting up Parliament purple tonight is “called walking the walk”, but it turns he’s more interested in talking the talk.
