Deb concerned about knee-jerk Dam decision

Deb concerned about knee-jerk Dam decision

26th February 2015

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, says reports that Labor had no plans to progress the Flood Mitigation dam proposals were a knee-jerk reaction that will only create even more uncertainty for Somerset residents.

Mrs Frecklington said that late last year the LNP government had announced three Dam prefeasibility study recommendations, including two in the Nanango Electorate – the Linville Dam site and the raising of the Wivenhoe Dam wall.

“While no decisions had been made, I’m extremely disappointed that these proposals have been dismissed, leaving my constituents with even more waiting and uncertainty,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I understand that Minister Bailey rejected the proposal before he even received a proper briefing from the Department,” she said.

Mrs Frecklington said her Government had been working methodically to address flood mitigation proposals and in the process had been upfront and honest with Somerset residents about the options that were under consideration.

“In particular, people living in the Linville area were hoping to understand fairly soon whether or not the Dam would become a reality, and they were keen to start making plans, whatever the decision may have been. Now, the proposal will just keep hanging over their heads, which is not a good outcome,” she said.

“If Labor aren’t going to progress these flood mitigation options, what is their plan? You just can’t leave people without answers like this. I’ll be writing to the Minister to address this issue,” Mrs Frecklington questioned.

Thank-you

12th February 2015

I am extremely humbled to be returning to work this month, following the recent state election, as the Member for Nanango. I would like to thank you for putting your faith in me for a second term and I'm looking forward to working even harder to make the Nanango Electorate an even greater place for our families to live, work and raise a family.

It’s very important for me to pass on a special thank-you to all the people who volunteered their time to support my campaign during the election. Through long hot days, so many people assisted at pre-poll, put up signs and helped on election day itself, and I can’t thank them enough.

I am extremely proud that this was the only LNP electorate to experience an upwards swing in voter support.

But I won’t be resting on my laurels. I’m looking forward to getting back to Parliament and joining with my colleagues, including newly elected leaders, Lawrence Springborg and John-Paul Langbroek to be a part of a competent, experienced and stable voice for Queensland and our local community.

Locally, I’m straight back into continuing my work with all the communities around the Nanango Electorate. In particular, I’d love to hear from as many community groups as possible to find out more about local events and the assistance I can offer. As always, I am keen to hear about any State issues which need to be brought to my attention.

One of my first jobs since being back on the job is to congratulate our new school leaders for 2015. It’s been a pleasure to attend the eadership ceremonies and see so many eager young faces ready for a new school year.

Once again, thank-you so much for putting your faith in me to continue as your local State member.

Deb congratulates Carol on 25 years as JP

10th February 2015

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, has officially presented Carol Toms of Toogoolawah with a special certificate for achieving 25 years as a Justice of the Peace.

Mrs Frecklington presented the award to Mrs Toms at the Coach House Café, where Carol and a group of friends were having their monthly get-together.

“It was really lovely to share Carol’s special presentation with her friends, who have been meeting every month for the past 20 years,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I think it is so important that we recognise local JP’s, like Carol, who dedicate so much of their time to supporting members of the community when they need help with documents, at often those very important moments of their life,” she said.
